Our goal is to help our patients maintain optimal oral health through the necessary information, timely treatment and preventive care.
Our Periodontist in Panama have and range from non-surgical therapies to maintenance techniques and surgical procedures such as bone and/or gingival grafts, as well as guided tissue regeneration with platelet and membrane sedimentation techniques.
We would like to explain some of the causes of periodontal disease and the steps you can take to prevent the onset of this condition.
At Dental One we are committed to patient comfort.
Why should I see a Periodontist in Panama?
Proper brushing and flossing daily, along with regular visits to your dentist for a thorough exam and detailed cleaning are the keys to maintaining good oral health, as it only takes a small, unchecked amount of plaque to start a periodontal problem.
The periodontists at Dental One treat gum inflammation, tissue infection, and control plaque and calculus buildup.
We can also treat a wide variety of tissue disorders that undermine the aesthetics of a smile, including excess gum tissue, gum recession, and tooth loss.
Providing quality periodontal care to our patients by treating any of the symptoms of periodontal disease early is one of our top priorities.
Periodontal Procedures
Most general dentists are trained in the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease in early stages; however, severe or complex cases should be referred to a Periodontist, who is a dentist with additional training and experience in periodontal procedures.
Minor to moderate cases of periodontal disease are often treated with minimally invasive or non-surgical procedures such as scaling and root planing, where hand instruments are used to thoroughly clean the teeth below the gum line.
If periodontal disease has progressed to the point where the gum is no longer attached to the tooth surface, minor surgery may be required to treat these “pockets” that form. During a pocket reduction procedure, the Periodontist opens a small flap in the gum to remove infected tissue so that, during the healing process, healthy tissue can attach to the teeth.
In advanced stages of periodontal disease, a loss of the supporting bone of the teeth is usually observed and, if left untreated, can lead to the loss of a tooth, even if it is free of caries. It is possible to stop and even reverse the damage, in most cases, with procedures such as bone or gum grafts and treatments that stimulate tissue regeneration.
Other periodontal procedures
Dental One offers a wide range of periodontal treatments in addition to those we discussed above, for example:
1. Gingival graft or gum graft: this procedure seeks to correct receding gums by covering back the roots, reducing tooth sensitivity and protecting against cavities and preventing the increase in gum recessions.
2. Crown lengthening surgery: modifies the shape of the gum and sometimes also the bone tissue, to change the appearance of a “gummy smile,” to create healthy relationships between teeth, gums and bone, as well as to facilitate oral rehabilitation processes.
